"How
many of you cried when you saw yourself in your wedding dress? I
guess a better question would be how many didn't?"
I did not cry.
"...So
should I wait and try on more until I find one that makes me cry?"
I wouldn't wait.
Just make sure you look around before purchasing unless you 100% sure.
"I
think I'm holding back emotionally until I find *THE* dress, but how
do I know when it's *THE* dress??"
I knew my wedding
dress was "the dress" because it was one of the few with
color, I liked the cut, I looked good in it, and it was in my price range.

"I myself,
didn't cry after trying on the dress I loved. My friend who was there
with me did though. But I wouldn't say tears are a sign that it's
"The One". I knew for myself what things I was looking for
in a wedding dress (sleeveless, scoop neck, short train, etc.) and
what things flattered me best. Once I found the wedding dress that
included both those aspects I knew it was the one. I would say if you
are in love with those dresses then go back and try them on again. I
found that getting my wedding dress was such a relief because I
didn't have to look anymore. Some wedding dresses can take up to 6-8
months to come in, so it's best to get one as soon as possible. Buy
the one that YOU love! You'll look beautiful in whatever you choose
I'm sure!

"I haven't
even tried on wedding dresses. I'm not going to either. I'm having my
wedding dress made. I knew in my head what I wanted my wedding dress
to look like from looking through magazines. And I couldn't find
anything in the stores that matched that idea. So my future mother in
law, my mom, and I went to the fabric store and found a pattern that
most fit what I wanted. Then we went and found the fabric that I
wanted and we're altering the pattern to suit what we went. I'm very
excited about it. I'd show you all a picture.. if I could. But there
are none available :) But it's EXACTLY what I wanted, and it won't
cost me thousands"

"My daughter
did not cry when she tried on "the" dress, but I did. It
was actually the first one she tried on. She tried several
afterwards, but kept going back to the same one. I think I knew it
was "the" one as soon as I saw her in it.
Find one that is
comfortable, not too heavy (they do get hot), easy to move in (you're
going to spend most of the day in it and will be sitting, standing,
bending, dancing, etc.), and one that is very flattering on you. Even
different shades of white can make a difference. Find that one dress
that when you see yourself in it -- you look at yourself and feel a
'WOW!!! Is that really me??' "

"I'm sure the
dress is beautiful but if you aren't convinced that "this is
one", I say wait. You may try on another 10-15 dresses and
realize this is the one that made you feel the most beautiful after
all. At least you will be sure".

"I had
trouble finding a wedding dress initially, because I am chubby, and
kind of between sizes, but not enough into fit "plus"
sizes. All those batistes and ribs usually made me look like a
well-filled sausage, or if I tried a larger size, I absolutely swam
in fabric.
I didn't cry when
I found my wedding dress, but I looked in the mirror, and
involuntarily thought "Hey, I look just like a bride!" I
was kind of shocked, because I really had begun to think if I could
find anything at all flattering, I would have to settle for that. I
was pretty sure this was the dress at that moment; still, I tried on
two more, to keep my sister happy, but I knew I had found my dress.
I found that
several Bridal Originals looked good on me, and my dress is a Bridal
Original, Ravissant collection. I have heard other heavier brides say
they liked or bought a Bridal Original wedding dress, too, so maybe
they are just more flattering for larger figures".

"When I first
started thinking about wedding dresses I had no idea what I wanted!
But, when I went to a bridal store and went through all the wedding
dresses I found one that I absolutely loved. I tried on four dresses
but kept going back to this one because I knew I wanted it from the
moment I saw it! And... it was on sale for $100 if I bought it off
the rack!!!! This is such a beautiful dress - It has buttons going
down the back and beading on the bodice... so pretty and perfect for
me. Often times the best way to find the dress is to just go
to bridal stores and try things on... that is the best way to figure
out what you like, and what you don't like, and what looks good on
you. And often times you can find the perfect wedding dress on sale!"

"I'm very
tired, fighting sleep, but I just have to tell you.... Today I had my
first appointment in a wedding dress shop. I was pretty nervous about
it - will I fit into the dresses they have in the shop? I don't have
a model's body, you know.
My mum went with
me, and when we arrived, my dad - who had driven us there - asked if
he could accompany us. He wanted to see his girl as a bride. That
touched me so much - so how could I ever refuse such a request?
Contrary to what I
had expected all went very smoothly. I felt immediately very much at
ease, and very special too. I knew right away that by entering this
shop I was entering kind of another world.
We first looked at
pictures of wedding dresses, so that the saleswoman who was appointed
to me could get an idea of the styles I liked. The funny thing is,
almost all the dresses I pointed at were dresses from the collection
of their own designer.
We then went
upstairs, where the wedding dresses are. I was at once awed by the
surroundings. A beautiful old wooden floor, white canvas in front of
the fitting rooms, and wedding dresses everywhere. It was just perfect.
There was one
dress that immediately struck me. But the saleswoman had already
gotten me another one she wanted me to try on - it'll be perfect on
you, she said. I looked at the size and panicked, I mean, this was
way too small. But those of you who have tried to comfort me the past
few days, were right: they have ways of fitting it to you. I left the
fitting room and my dad looked at me like 'wow is this my daughter?'.
The saleswoman was so right. This style was perfect for me. I walked
around in it and felt like a princess - gone were the worries about
sizes and not being able to fit into dresses. They had been replaced
by a deep feeling of happiness.
I then tried on
the dress that had struck me. Already when the saleswoman was helping
me to put it on, I knew it was the one. And when I left the fitting
room again, I saw it in my dad's and mum's eyes. This was THE dress.
This is what I had dreamed of, but what I'd always thought I'd never
find, and if I'd find, I'd never get into it. The moment I looked in
the mirror I fell in love with it.
Of course I tried
on some more. But it was clear: that second one was THE DRESS. Even
the saleswoman said: "Everytime you put it on you glow with
happiness, that's a good sign, you look radiant". And she added:
"And you'll look even more stunning when it is made to your size
and fits perfectly".
And then the
designer himself appeared - he happened to be there today, what luck.
I talked with him about minor changes to the dress and I had such a
great feeling about it. He showed me what these changes would look like.
Now to cut a long
story short, there we were, on our very first day of dress hunting,
and we thought we had found the dress. Suddenly I started doubting.
Was it wise to buy a dress that early, after having been in just one
shop? Shouldn't I see some more collections and compare etc.? Now, my
mum would normally be very hesitant and persuade me to think some
more about it but now she looked at me and said: "Karin, you
just look soooooo beautiful, this dress is written on your body".
Well, the rest you
can guess: I BOUGHT IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I AM
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first I thought
I wouldn't tell Diether (because he knew what shop I went to today,
so he'd know where I had bought it). I managed to keep it silent for
a couple of hours. Finally I asked him to drive past the church we'll
be getting married in, and there I told him I had already bought the dress..."
