Chelsea Clinton's Wedding Cake

Chelsea Clintons Wedding CakeWhat Did Chelsea Clintons Wedding Cake Look Like...?

Curious to know what Chelsea Clinton's Wedding Cake was like? We’ve got the details!  Plus a rare picture of the cake!

At her Summer 2010 wedding, Chelsea Clinton’s wedding cake came in at a price tag of a $11,000. Do not adjust your screen – you read right!

The Chelsea Clinton Wedding Cake was very elegant and traditional. Chelsea Clinton chose a 9-tier, 4 feet tall design. Mainly white, with silver accents, it weighed a hefty 500 pounds!

Few photos were officially released to the public, and pictures of Chelsea Clinton's wedding cake are hard to come by, but SuperWeddings editor, internationally recognized wedding expert Linda Kevich managed to use her expertise to track down a rare photo of Chelsea Clinton's wedding cake, shown at right.

As for style and color, it was mainly white but was accented with little silver circular designs at the base of each tier. One could almost describe them as little silver beads that looked like half-wheels.

There were a grand total of 1,000 edible sugar flowers that were delicately brushed with pearl accent. This is in keeping with the edible cake decorations trend that is in style now.

Chelsea’s edible sugar flower decorations were mostly roses, a few hydrangeas, some calla lilies, and two types of orchids.

For flavor, Chelsea chose vanilla with dark chocolate mousse. The ingredients were mostly organic, all from the local area.

The cake was made by La Tulipe Desserts in Westchester, New York.

It took an entire team of 9 cake decorators and bakers to create this masterpiece. The bakery is well known in the area for its fabulous confectionery creations -  from tarts and pies to cookies and, of course, wedding cakes.

Chelsea Clinton's wedding cake was gluten-free. The daughter of former US President Bill Clinton  is reportedly vegan and has a gluten sensitivity (though her cake was not vegan).

“This will empower people to make these requests,” says Grace Clerihew, a principal at Table Tales, a New York City catering firm. “Prior to this, they might have thought it was not mainstream enough to even talk about, but now that they see it being done by such a public persona it becomes acceptable.”

Clerihew thinks more couples will now vegan and gluten-free wedding cake options “in a more inspired way” because of the Chelsea Clinton wedding cake.

"Celebrity wedding cakes often inspire new trends", says internationally recognized wedding expert Linda Kevich. She predicts a growing trend toward gluten free wedding cakes over the next while stemming from Chelsea's gluten free wedding cake.

Right now only about 5% of wedding cakes are gluten free, according to wedding cake decorators and bakers so we`ll watch for this number to grow.
